yep, it is part of the nightshade, but in this instance that's a good thing, because the alkaloids are very healing and don't get poisonous or toxic at all. Just don't overdo! great way to give digestive power a boost. I try to always have green chili peppers or jalapenos or red pepper flakes in my cheese sauce dishes.
