Hi, Trakar--
I had problems with BV for years--it would turn up every month or so like clockwork. The doctors would dose me with Flagyl, usually, and soon enough, my vaginal cultures showed the presence of both bacteria AND yeast (which I had thought impossible, b/c both thrive in different ph environments). So for the past three years, I have been trying to kick the yeast (diet, traditional Chinese medicine, herbs, natural anti-fungals, not-so-natural anti-fungals, P&B shakes, etc.). I suspect, of course, that the Antibiotics caused the yeast, but like you, I also wonder if BV is a symptom of candida overgrowth. Well before the yeast manifested, I had a wicked sweet tooth.
Anyway, I don't have much advice, because I'm still suffering from vaginal yeast infections, but I will say that if at all possible, you should NOT take any more Antibiotics . You run the risk of the BV developing into a resistant strain that won't respond to even the strongest antibiotic, not to mention upping your chances for vaginal yeast infections.
By the way, my BV only developed during my relationship with an ex-boyfriend of five years, and it has been suggested to me more than once--even though he had been treated multiple times as well--that our body chemistries just didn't "match." I was skeptical about that, but who knows? All I know is that now I'm stuck with yeast, not BV.
