My skin also gets flat and smooth, even soft in a way when it is dry. Like you, my dryness is helped by the calcium, but there is still something missing, I'm guessing that it would be the lipids like you suggest. I'm still not sure if my fat metabolism is improving or if I'm just not as prone to dryness. I guess I will just have to stay consistent, and see.
I'm sure the magnesium has been of benefit for me. When I started using it, it got rid of the bumpy feel on the backs of my arms which is associated with calcium deposits, and some other nutrients that elude me at the moment.
For me, I had to really get my candida population down for my iron to help. It may have also put a demand on my zinc and copper, as I don't feel that I need as much now that I have gotten the candida under some control. I still have a bit that I feel needs to be cleaned up before it over populates, but I'm trying not to wipe out my good flora in the process. I believe that the minerals can be helpful if the diet is clean.
The amino acids could help, but if protein consumption thru foods is okay, I'd say focus on the minerals. Proper mineral balance is essential for protein metabolism in conjunction with some vitamins, so I'd focus on vitamins and minerals first. I use glutamine and tyrosine. But when things get hectic, I stay focused on my minerals then my vitamins.
