Soluble fibers slow down the absorption of food (thus fiber rich foods generally having a lower glycemic index) but it can really fight constipation (unless one does not take enough water).
Soluble fibers can be fermented by the intestinal flora, insoluble can't.
Psyllium is almost entirely soluble fibers, flax seeds are 50/50, and hemp is almost entirely insoluble fibers.
There is definitively no risk in increasing your insoluble fibers intake.
