I guess if you never experienced it you could be hard to convince. In my case I cured myself and going on 4 years now without any relapse. I'm a believer but even so its hard to educate the ones closest to you even tho they saw you before and after. Its hard to change opnes thinkings if you yourself is not the one suffering.
