Sans - its all very confusing for everybody. your doctor, (who sounds GREAT, by the way (is he/she anywhere near NYC?), will probably not know for certain how chlorella works.... we know what it does in ponds - that's why it has the reputation for being a merc. binder - but what it does in the body is, of course, different.
I really like that its doing all these good things for you - i can't imagine it would be good to stop it unless things suddenly started going dramatically downhill.
PLEASE, PLEASE, do NOT run out and just take ALA without first reading up on it. If you're gonna do ALA at all, and you think you have merc. toxicity - go and read up on the whole chelation controversy... Cutler is not the only one with opinions - but you should learn what he has to say about it.
specifically, before you go near ALA again, go to http://www.noamalgam.com and also read up at http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/frequent-dose-chelation and also check out the others yahoo link think i already posted a while back. there are dangers to random chelation.
also, if you really want to - on those lists Cutler posts all the time on those yahoo lists and his email is right there. you could simply email him and ask him to tell you about chlorella if you're concerned. he would know way more about it. you could take his info. to your doc.
I'm beginning to calm down about this whole thing, thankfully. I figure that merc. is handled through the liver so if i do some liver-helping and remineralizing and stuff it should be enough for now - if that doesn't help i can always try a small, careful round of chelation later and see what happens.
best,
Candilass
