Cyrulis is right about the raw ones - they even look different - a white colour. But you should soak them for no more than 7 hours (cause they are a tender nut) with either some salt or whey. Then you can roast them in the oven. Yum.

But do be aware that even nuts can cause problems. And always be suspicious if you cannot seem to get enough of anything.

For instance, I knew that raw, soaked, roasted cashews were allowed and also nutritious and so I snacked on them - a lot. (This, in spite of the fact that I knew I wasn't digesting them well.) This week, on a hunch - because I seemed to crave them - I finally stopped eating them for a day just as a test and found that I immediately felt better.

So, as the oft used expression goes, "listen to your body" - we are all unique.
