I'm not going to become a total convert, just increase my consumption a lot, but I figure you guys are best qualified to answer my question.
On advice from Shelley's Forum, I did a salt waterflush, with excellent results, after a week+ of eating very little except some fruit, chicken noodle soup and a bit of cereal and staying off alcohol (I only drink wine and an occasional beer anyway).
Today, my appetite returned so, thinking I was being ever so good, I ignored my desire for a hot, spicy lunchtime curry and instead chopped up some beetroot, endive, red cabbage, tomato and onion. I added a few shrimps and some crab meat and tossed the lot in a dressing made of fromage frais with herbs. It was delicious and I was real pleased I'd enjoyed something healthy.
That was until I began to feel uncomfortable, my tummy rumbled incessantly and I began to pass almost non-stop wind from both ends. That went on until my English husband, who thinks Americans are "obsessed with their innards (and their heads)" came in and said "All those raw veg, including onions?!?! No wonder you're farting! What you need is a couple of glasses of decent Bordeaux to settle your stomach."
Yes, the Bordeaux has helped - I'm only burping occasionally now - but that isn't the point of my posting. What I need to know is whether these side effects are part of a transition to eating more raw foods, or did my salad include something best left out? Those onions?
