If big bang is true...assuming..

Can anyone explain why earth, is the only planet who got life out of 9 planets?

Can anyone explain why Scientists figured that if not for Jupiter, the rain of massive projectiles striking the earth would be 10,000 times more severe than at present? is Jupiter a mere coincidence of the big bang with great purpose to protect life on earth?
