Not necessarily so...lets look at all the money the government throws at Science for say...studying the lifecycle/mating habit of some creature with no product attached...happens all the time and the researchers promote the study and try to tie it to some popular humanitarian concern.

Lets take stem cell research for example...there's a hot push to forward embryonic stem cell research even though the real promise lies with the adult stem cells which have had positive results....for some reason there's a big push to conitnue with the embryonic research...now why is that?

Far as the churches interested in keeping people believing for their pocketbook's sake...of course there are those who look to scam people...this happens in every area of society. It is not unique to churches. Sadly, anyone who would act in this manner is not necessarily a true Chritian just as the snake oil salesman is not a doctor.

People have choices in every area of life. It is up to the individual to educate themselves and thereby protect themselves from being preyed upon. This by no means indicates that Christianity is false...just as the snake oil salesman's behavior should not discredit those who honorably practice medicine.
