I live in South Florida, about 40 miles north of Miami
on the east coast. Normally, the hurricane season
doesn't really start until August. The summers are dry
and delightful, and no matter how hot it gets, there's
always a refreshing breeze.

But not this year. We've been immersed in an ongoing
tropical storm for more than 2 weeks; torrential rains,
lots of lightning and thunder, gusty winds, and very
little sunshine. Normally, this is a season of drought.
Not this year.

Last year, the hurricane soap-opera didn't begin until
the first week in August. We endured 6 stressful weeks,
in which 4 major hurricanes threatened us directly.
Normal life came to a complete stop. The only things
that people -- and I mean everyone -- did from mid-
August till the end of September, revolved around
hurricane-related activities: boarding-up, buying
food, watching the weather channel, and, eventually,
for those of us who live close to the ocean, the
inevitable evacuation of our homes. The stress was
non-stop, around the clock. I am sure that more Floridians died of conditions caused by hurricane-stress, than were killed in the destructive
winds.

And on this Saturday morning in early June, we seem to
be right back in last year's negative mind-set. The deteriorating weather is the only topic of conversation. Arlene, a powerful tropical storm, is
a threat to tens of millions of people who live in
shore communities on the Gulf, many of whom are still
trying to rebuild from last year's devastation.

I hope the CureZone regulars will keep us in your
prayers; all of us who live close to the Western Sea.
It feels like this summer is going to be special; for
better or worse, I don't know. My intuition tells me
that this Weather & Storm forum is going to be a busy
place in the weeks and months ahead. God willing, we'll
all survive and thrive.

Blessings,

Owen
