To all my CureZone Friends:
Hurricane Jeanne spared my part of
Southeast Florida, Thank God! Just
30 hours ago, it looked like we were
going to take a major hit. My mother
and I had evacuated our coastal condos for the second time in two
weeks. We hunkered down in my brother's concrete house, and
prepared for the worst. When the
power went out last evening (Saturday), winds of 125 mph were
predicted for the midnight hours.
However, our guardian angels were
on full-alert. Hurricane Jeanne
wasn't as big as Frances, and it
made landfall farther north than
the forecasters predicted. So while
the northern part of Palm Beach
County was hit with hurricane winds,
the southern part, where I live,
escaped the really destructive gales. Trees and fences blew down,
but our condos survived another
major threat. The roof stayed on,
and we had no structural damage
from the fourth hurricane in the last six weeks.
Our power was out for just over 24
hours; another blessing. Most of us
expected it would be gone for at least a week.
I spent the day opening up our
hurricane shutters and shoveling
off the debris-laden patios. Neighbors stopped by to see us,
and to swap the latest stories.
Just about everyone is bone-weary,
not so much physically, as emotionally. The last six weeks have
been an ongoing ordeal; nothing but
preparing for hurricanes, cleaning
up after them -- and then learning
that a new storm is due in days.
There are still 8 weeks left in
hurricane season; a very sobering
thought for millions of Floridians.
Thank you so much for your prayers!
I hope that Happydog, Alikat, Corey,
and others, were as fortunate as
my mother and me. I look forward to
hearing from all of you.
Blessings,
Owen
