Gen. 2:7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

So you see a person + the breath of life = a soul.

If you have five pieces of wood and a hand full of nails, you can put them together and make a box.

Now take the nails back. You have some wood and some nails. Where did the box go? It didn't go anywhere. It just ceases to exist.

When a person dies their body goes back to the ground and the breath goes back to God. You don't go anywhere. You just cease to exist.
