it seems so ironic to have found a way of life that is beyond compare to anything i ever knew before... a way of life that is priceless... and yet wanting so bad to share it... to give it away to anyone that would have it... and of the millions of people that so desperately need it... only being able to find a scant few that want it... and are willing to go to any lenghts to get it...
it's sort of like being free on the outside of a prison and wanting to free all the tortured souls of the inmates within... only every time i break a hole through the wall they close it and concrete it shut as fast as they can... because they are familiar with their self made prison and scared out of their wits at the thought of letting go of what they think to be paradise... and never to know freedom...
which again makes me think to compare alcoholic/addicts with some of the tales i've heard of people that were electrocuted by high voltage wires because they were unable to let go...
the really sad part is that all the people that are dieing of alcoholism and drug addiction somehow have allowed their minds to become twisted into thinking and believing they are having a good time (while all along they seem unable to distinguish that they are literally killing themselves)... and their denial is so strong... so deep... so blinding that they can't seem to face the fact that it is they that are doing it to themselves... it is one of their most common characteistic to always point the finger away from the problem... they are always quick to place the blame elsewhere...
yes...it saddens me to have to watch and listen to all the unnecessary agony and suffering that goes on inside those "self made" prison walls... but then a smile appears upon my lips as i become overwhelmed with love and gratitude... because thanks to "AA" and the "GOD of my understanding" i am a free man today... thank GOD that it is not me having to do all the heartless... cruel... insane things that drive those tortured souls... and "you" my friend... are so "right on the money"... there are 12 very simple steps that lead to freedom... that serve as a roadmap for anyone that wishes to escape from their "self made hell" into a life they never would have dreamed existed...
there is one big clue in the 3rd step prayer if one can read it and comprehend...
God relieve me of (freedom from) "the bondage of self"...
so...
"to thine 'SELF' be true"...
"greater is he that conquers himself... than he that conquers the world"...
and as Mr. Rogers would say:
"it's a wonderful day in the neighborhood boys & girls"...
lol...
;-)
