Hiya Drof,
I don't think it's such a bad thing to be dependent on something non-narcotic in order to live happily, healthily and in harmony with other people, and there shouldn't be any stigma associated with it either, like kudzu, for example. Another example: just look at diabetics. They have to carry insulin around with them, but even if a person is diabetic, and dependent on an external source of insulin, do you or I think any less of that person? Probably not. I sure don't.
It could be argued that we are all dependent on certain things, and also have individual sensitivities, and special needs. Some people are dependent on their early morning coffee, and there's no social stigma associated with that. And then there are other people who can't live without vitamin C....
If your sobriety comes from 'God' or AA or from an herbal supplent or from your own will, then what ultimately counts is that you are sober, and that you have a clear head, and that you relating to people in a kind, mature, non-judgemental and thoroughly productive way. I'm a firm believer in "the end justifies the means".
What about you? How do you stay sober? Best wishes on your continued sobriety, Drofinah!
