Actually they are not in it *just* for the money. Many of them are in it for the buzz/social kudos. Being a doctor is not like most other jobs - you have to make life and death decisions all the time. You get to play God. Many people (certain male types) get off on this power trip. It is no coincidence that Britain's most polific serial killer - Harold Shipman - was a doctor. One, it allowed him to abuse his position. And Two the same qualities that make a doctor when taken in extremis also make a good psychopath.
