This is certainly true in a general sense.

However, fasting is a special situation requiring a daily colon cleansing routine to remove toxins quickly to avoid detox crises.

I have done very long fasts (60 days last summer), using a combination of lax tea/swf/plain water enema, and have no trouble regaining peristalsis when I return to normal eating.
