There's an axiom you read over and over when doing research on fasting "fasting makes you fat". Most fasts, including the Master Cleanse, will cause your metabolism to slow down. This is a natural function of the body to go into survival mode when no solid food is consumed or the calorie intake is severely reduced quite suddenly. Actually though, the metabolic slowdown is not nearly as great with Master-Cleanse as it is with water only fasting and many juice fasts. The Master Cleanse uses a large amount of simple sugar. The Maple syrup is rapidly broken down into glucose and is ready to fuel the body. Muscle wasting should not be a concern on Master-Cleanse unless strenuous exercise requires more glucose to fuel the muscles than the Master-Cleanse drink has made available.
The real key to keeping weight off is to accept that your metabolic rate has slowed considerably. Eat very lightly when coming off the fast. If you fast ten days, you will need at least thirty days of light eating before your metabolism is restored. Do not starve yourself to the point where your rate stays low, just concentrate on eating plenty of fruits and veggies and stay away from animal products and high fat foods. Gradually add whole grains and cereals to slowly increase caloric intake and add healthy fats.
