Random hypothetical Q. I have spent ages searching old threads and it seems that quite a few people reported weight gain on iodine. I recently started back on Iodine again and gained weight rapidly and also my body temperature dropped from 36.5 to 35.3 although my energy levels were good and I was sleeping well. I am Hypo-T and have had to switch my desiccated thyroid since the one I have taken for 4 years has been discontinued. In hindsight I realise that it was stupid to start Iodine at the same time as changing my thyroid meds as I won't know what is causing what. I stopped the Iodine a few days ago and will restart when I am stable on the new NDT.

IF the weight gain is caused by the iodine, should the weight gain automatically reverse when stopping iodine? My body temp has crept back up (36.1 this morning) but no change in my weight. I eat a Paleo diet. I don't know if the weight gain is the iodine or the new NDT (this one works differently and have been told you can need a higher dose than the one I was on before so it's possibly I'm on too low a dose). When I took iodine a few years ago, I was really ill with Hypo-T symptoms and was a lot heavier than I am now so I didn't notice any weight gain then.

After losing the 40lbs of hypo weight, I really don't want to gain weight. I want to get back on iodine and if weight gain is a temporary thing while the body sorts itself out, I'm happy to push through. Thoughts?
