Well I don't think I'll get there before you, but not because I think you'll die before me, but because I think all believers in Christ will go to the New Heaven and Earth at the same time, no one precedes anyone else. Until then, those of us who die "sleep" in Jesus, awaiting the resurrection. Whatever "asleep in Jesus" means, to me it doesn't imply we're running around having a grand time with Jesus in heaven before all the rest of the saints arrive and I have to say, I think it sounds all the more exciting that we'll all rise together at once, those who are dead and those who are still alive at his coming, none of us having had any other experience than this mortal life in our mortal bodies. Then all together we are changed, "in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye", and made immortal and taken to the New Heaven and Earth where for the first time we experience life not in our corruptible, mortal bodies but our new incorruptible, immortal bodies. I don't believe the scriptures teach a bodiless state of conscious living for human beings. I know there are certain scriptures that seem to imply a conscious bodiless state (before the ressurection) but I believe those scriptures have been misinterpreted.
I hope that makes sense all I just said, even if you disagree, which I know the majority of Christians would. But I can't see 1 Thess. 4 and 1 Cor. 15, as well as so many other passages of scripture, teaching anything else:
1 Thess. 4:
13But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. 14For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.
15For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. 16For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 18Therefore comfort one another with these words.
1 Cor. 15:50
50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption. 51 Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed— 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 54 So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”
55 “O Death, where is your sting?
O Hades, where is your victory?”
56 The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.
