This is my first post here. I kind of felt obligated to write this post since I've pretty much cured my peeling lips within in a ridiculously short time after suffering from this condition for close to a year.

I used accutane when I was in high school to cure my Acne which in turn lead to me habitually using lip balm 10-15 times a day. This carried on for years until my lips skin was so thin it just started peeling off (albeit I bit most of it off so it was really self-inflicted). This leads me to my next point; my method for curing this is only going to apply to those who have self-inflicted themselves with this condition.

The basis for my cure is, you guessed it, the "leave it alone" method. I tried putting just about everything under the sun on my lips to cure it but nothing worked until I decided to just completely leave it alone. Now this worked great, within 3-4 weeks I was seeing tremendous progress just by leaving my lips alone and drinking 3 litres of water per day. However, here is what I did that got my lips pretty much fully healed within 2 weeks: l-lysine, vitamin D, using a toothpaste that doesn't contain SLS, and keeping my lips in a warm environment. Those four things sped up my healing process immensely.

I started taking l-lysine (typically used to treat herpes) along with vitamin D and multivitamins about two weeks ago and my lips started healing so fast it was kind of shocking. Most of my lips now is full layered healthy skin. There's two other things I did which allowed my lips to heal very quickly. First, I kept my lips warm at all times. I live in Canada which can be very cold outside during the winter and read that cold weather impedes the healing process so now when I go outside I always wear a buff over the lower half of my face to keep my lips relatively warm. This definitely helped. The second thing I did was switch to a toothpaste that didn't contain SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate). SLS can dry your lips out pretty bad and hinder the healing process. Right now I'm using sensodyne brilliant white, which doesn't contain SLS. It's not a natural toothpaste but it's honestly much kinder on my skin than the natural toothpaste I was using before that did contained SLS.

Anyway, this is what I did which took me from having raw peeling lips to almost fully healed healthy lips within a matter of weeks. Remember: treat it like a wound and heal it from the inside (vitamins, amino acids, and water) not the outside (creams, steroids, etc). You just gotta leave your lips alone and allow your lips to return to an equilibrium while supplementing vitamins and staying hydrated and warm.
