I would contact the waterboard with your problem, it is their job to supply clean fresh water, we pay them water rates, dont let them put you off. If you have residue caused by water laying in your pipes overnight then you have a problem, they might even let you have a filter free.

I still use a water filter mainly to take chlorine out after it has done its job. Water disinfection means the removal, deactivation or killing of pathogenic microorganisms.
We tell our grandkids that we have 'magic' water which dont fur up the kettle with limescale:) they love it:)
