I'm replying to my own original post for an update.
Thank you for all your kind, helpful replies. I started exploring RA's connection to the digestive system more, and this led me to fasting which they say is one of the most powerful ways to heal your gut bacteria environment. Then I found a number of clinical studies done in Europe where RA patients were fasted with good results and also changes in their gut flora were observed. I was now convinced that healing the GI tract IS a major key to healing RA. I was also led to Dr. Joel Fuhrman's book "Fasting and Eating for Health". He talked about many past cases from his practice where RA was healed through prolonged water fast. I was so excited about finding so much good information!
So my friend and I decided to do a 14-day juice fast together, since I have some conditions I want to improve, also. I thought that going for a few juice fasts before jumping into water-only will be less strenuous. Well, we just finished Day 14, and I'm so happy to report that she felt "significantly better" in her joints in the last half of the 14 days. I recommended her to start reducing her medication dosage.
The studies I read tell me that when you re-feed after fasting, RA symptoms tend to come back. But there was a study on RA in relation to raw-food diet which is supposed to slowly heal the disease in a long run. So we decided the best plan is to go for a long haul, maybe over two years with 3-4 fasts a year, alternating with feeding periods with high-raw food diet and doing Liver Flush in the middle.
I feel very confident about my friend's chance of total remission. There may be others who might benefit from what we learn and experience on this journey, so I will continue to post updates!
