Yes, I too thought I was buying organic but turned out the very soil treatments were killing me. I went to some organic carrot farms in Central California, they were established in the 80's and 90's.
So I went back and checked on the land prior to their use and they were commercial lettuce farms and Grape Vineyards. The soils had up to 80 years of fertilizers and insecticides used on them. Unless those people dig down and remove all the soil 3 feet deep and replace it with leaf mulch and clean top soil. The soil still has those chemicals in it and the estimated life of those chemicals are over 500 years before they are neutralized.
It is sad but many organic vegetable farms are built on top of older farms that used chemicals and are not really organic. But the FDA only judges them on current organic techniques use of the land, not on the soils previous centuries of use.
Some of these organic farmers know the soil is polluted but as long as they are using FDA approved organic techniques they get a 100% organic label.
