Black tarry stool means you need to go to a lab an have your occult done with a stool smear ASAP.

If there isn’t blood in your stool: great. It really is all the stuff. However, internal bleeds (black tarry stool is highly symptomatic of this) could kill you.

You need to go in. Unambiguous situation.

In addition, if you used the same words with your doctor that you did here, you need a new one. “Black and tarry” mean a blood check in your poop any time you see it. Pain and internal bleeds are not mutually exclusive.
