Could be a few things. 1) Molted worm skins 2) Dead worms 3) Tapeworm proglottids or as you said, mucus. Those white objects could be eggs or undigested food. Hard to tell from pics.

The fact is most people on the planet have one or more parasites, so it's not unusual.
