My naturophath has advised me to use grounded star anis with Holy basil, and every time I get the numb pain in my ears I get back to it with great results. Give it a try, brew a spoonful of each into a liter of hot water for 5 minutes and drink.

I believe the anis is for the ears and the basil for the intestines.
