I'm not sure which message to reply to but here goes. I don't know how old this is either but I decided to share my experience. I've been in AA for about 12 years (11 years of sobriety) and have been raped by three men in AA. One was a sex offender who was court ordered to go to AA. I was in relationships with all three of them. What I have found over the years is that there is a lot of predatory behavior in AA. I see other women in abusive relationships with men they met in AA, etc. I have come to understand that it isn't actually the safest place, and other women friends I know with some lengths of sobriety feel the same way. At this point I don't go to meetings much and just do my stepwork at home and work on my trauma (early childhood trauma) and coping skills a lot. I also have another friend who was raped by an old timer in AA. My first abusive relationship did not start until I was 2 years sober so I wasn't brand new into the program, just vulnerable from earlier abuse, which this man knew about. Be careful in AA. I am still trying to find out what works best for me for my recovery.
