Hello,
Been through the same myself after chelating.
The one thing that I did not figure was that our requirement for magnesium Mg is massive compared to any other supplement.

100 years ago Mg was abundant in the soil & now it is in dwindling supply.

If you go over to gotmag.org and read through it will all fall into place if you read thoroughly.
