I think if you commit to a vegetable diet maybe your smell will be remove completely because vegetables didn't expires or last long before it expires, actually it so hard tobe in a vegetable diet

And youre right Sugar and preservatives are everywhere
Rice also is a Sugar i think ,
So i replace it with potato carrots or taro rootcrops, i just boil them until it became soft with green vegetables
