My Cure for Exfoliative Cheilitis - Peeling Lips
I have tried many different approaches over my three year journey with Exfoliative Cheilitis , always hoping for the best. I've tried leave it alone and constant moisture. Constant moisture helped hide the crust but didn't really heal me. Then I came across a post on this site that changed everything. This person suggested putting probiotics on your lips. I've been doing this since November 2016.
Initially, I did 2 or 3 minutes a day and noticed an improvement after a month of so. Then I decided to start leaving the probiotics on for 20 min or so each day. By the three month mark, I got virtually no crusting anymore, only that my lips would turn a bit white when wet, but in the past month, this too has gone down a lot. I recently went 8 days with absolutely nothing on my lips whatsoever and only got a little whiteness one morning which came off easily after brushing my teeth.
I think this is the answer for some people, depending on the cause. The probiotics I use are in milk solids so it's sort of like yogurt. You can find it in places like Whole Foods. Overall, no joke this has changed my life. I am a skeptic of natural medicine but this did the trick. Is it fast? No. It will take at least a couple of months to really see a significant difference and more if you want total healing like I believe I'm on the verge of.
You can expect first for the crusting to stop, then for the white skin that occurs when the lips get wet to get thinner and cover a smaller area of the lips over time. Plus I used to have burning on my lips at times and that disappeared a few months ago too. I hope this offers you another avenue to explore if you haven't tried this already. Not saying it will work for everyone because this condition seems to be a symptom of many conditions ranging from vitamin deficiencies to allergies, but I think it's worth a shot. Will be happy to answer questions.
