I'm over 60 years old and my experience is with potassium gluconate since I was in my twenties.
I've never had any success getting enough potassium through food.
One of the basic functions of potassium is in supporting peristalsis, the involuntary wave-like contraction of muscles, i.e. elimination and swallowing.
The opposite of peristolsis is painful cramping.
It takes more than 500mg of potassium gluconate a day to stem the symptoms.
The amount I take is dependent upon my protein and salt intake.
