Thanks for sharing this. I will add that TCM does encourage keeping the kidneys warm because the kidneys are very susceptible to cold particularly during the winter months or cold conditions. Kidney disease would make the kidneys colder due to the poor blood circulation so countering this with heat could provide benefit. Some cultures do do this with high wraps around the middle which do help keep the kidneys warm. A more direct approach should improve on this and encourage energy and blood circulation within the kidneys which could be beneficial as you have found.
I would be a bit concerned by near infra red though, as it is usually IR-A which can be more damaging than IR-B & IR-C. The Beurer IP 50 manual lists IP-A & IP-B.
There are some good articles on this on the hershel website

A combination of old and new might provide a more effective solution. A heating wrap using carbon fibre heating elements (Far Infra Red) should not scorch and age the skin. These are not too expensive and cost in the same region of the money you quoted. They are far longer lasting too as those ceramic heating elements do tend to burn out, quickly in some cases judging by reviews on Amazon. There are cheaper alternatives but their lifespan and the cost of replacing the heating elements is likely to make them more expensive.
BTW TCM uses herbs to direct other herbs to the location that is being treated. They might take a kidney warming herb along with other herbs to direct the nutrients and herb properties towards the kidneys. This is similar to directly warming the kidneys with heat. Using this approach with nutrients for the circulation as mentioned in my previous post could direct the nutrients to where they are needed rather than being used up in other places which are less critical. Enzymes to open up circulation are needed in the kidney rather than other places therefore your ideas are very worthwhile. Combining different strategies to make the effects greater might be very helpful.
Thanks again for pointing out how effective this can be.
