I suffered from dyshidrotic eczema on my hands for 2 years before I could see a dermatologist. While I was waiting for my appointment, I looked everywhere on the web to find a treatment that would help, but nothing worked; it just got worst. When I finally saw the dermatologist, she took one look at my hands and went into a draw to pull out a paper with instructions to follow to treat the condition. One month after following her recommendations, 90% of my symptoms had cleared up; now 2 years on, I rarely get flare-ups. So, for everyone who's waiting to see a dermatologist, here are the instructions that my doctor gave to me:
• Wash with Dove bar soap for sensitive skin, Aveeno bar soap, or Cetaphil cleanser
• Avoid alcohol hand sanitizer and antibacterial soaps. (AVAGARD hand
sanitizer is ok).
• Moisturise hands after every time you wash with Cera Ve Cream or Prevex cream.
• Wear white cotton liners inside Mr. Clean Bliss Disposable Gloves for wet work (dishes, cleaning, etc).
• Apply plain Vaseline on damp skin overnight
She also prescribed a steroid cream (which got the healing process started), but these days I use over-the-counter 0.1% topical corticosteroid.
Furthermore, she said that it can't be cured, but it can be well managed. Finally, she said that hay fever may make it worst at times. I hope this helps someone.
