I am currently on day 11 of a water fast. Last July-August I did a 25-day water fast, broke it for about 5 days, then did another 8 days (I gave in during vacation). The reason for my fast was to help heal pain issues. I am also quite overweight, so the weight loss was also beneficial. By the end of my fast, I felt like I had a new lease on life -- felt better than I felt in years. Unfortunately, I did not follow up with the best of eating habits consistently. I don't plan to make that mistake again. My question is, at the end of my 8-day fast I checked my blood sugar. It had been in the 60s during the latter part of my fast, but it dropped to 52 at about day 7. I felt like that was too low and could not find any information as to if that was expected. I decided to drink a little orange juice (about 1/3 cup), and if necessary, do that once a day while I continued. The juice only raised my blood Sugar to 54, so I thought my body was probably telling me it was time to quit. As much improvement as I had during the fast, I did not feel like the healing was complete and I had wanted to keep going. Can someone tell me if this is something I should have been worried about? My blood Sugar before beginning a low carb diet months before the fast was in the one teens, so I was pre-diabetic. The low carb diet had so far brought it down to the 90s. I want to fast as long as I need to this time. Can anyone tell me if blood Sugar in the 50s during an extended fast is something I should be concerned with?
