Most people have heard of or even tried fasting without food. This has it's benefits because it gives the body extra energy to heal and house clean.
This energy would have been used on digestion.
Water fasting (no food) is 10x slower in detoxing than dry fasting. But we can't get to dry fasting until we have cleaned up our diet and we've been detoxing for a while.
The more congested your colon is, and the more animal products and grains you're eating, you need much more water.
I knew I was ready to start dry fasting when I was no longer thirsty. That means my salt, MSG, sugar, meat, and grain consumption went WAY down. I was no longer thirsty, so dry fasting was easy.
How does dry fasting work?
Every cell in our body accumulates dead water, full of toxins. When you see a child's gorgeous, luminous skin, we love what we see but don't know why our skin doesn't look like that.
It's because they have very few toxins in that dead water. With nothing to obstruct light in the cell, that light just bounces back. That's why they GLOW!
Children are also composed of much more water than adults. Adults are comparatively dehydrated.
What can we do to get skin like that again? How do we get rid of our dead water?
There is only one way- through very mild dehydration. The body starts opening cells to get at that available water, even though it's toxic.
As we are already many steps into a slow detox, your body won't feel as sick now, dealing with new toxins. A dry fast also kills off bad bacteria, viruses and parasites.
The reason? These critters need water just like we do.
But when we dry fast, the body goes into mild dehydration, taking water away from membranes into the more vital cells. When you are thirsty, your throat feels dry, right?
That means the body reserves water, and these little critters can't do anything about it. They die of dehydration. And the hardy ones that don't die, they definitely don't have babies, because they don't have a good home anymore.
I have fought off yeast, bladder and tooth infections with dry fasting. They would be completely gone after a dry fast, but 5 or 6 days later, I would catch something else.
I was always accumulating new bacteria and viruses, as we all do. Remember, too much fat was still in my diet. I was feeding them Sugar I wasn't supposed to, because I couldn't absorb it myself.
I didn't suddenly do a 24 hour dry fast. The body needs time and resources to deal with toxins.
Go slow! The body is still, and for a long time, be removing toxins. Removing toxins, needs a lot of water so your liver and kidneys don't struggle.
But the first goal is to do a short, dry fast, every day. You actually already do one daily, in your 8 hour sleep, right? Now you just need to make it longer.
If you have been late night eating, this has to stop.
Think about how long digestion takes. Not only could your stomach have food in it for an hour, but food has to move along your digestive track, and your liver and kidneys will have to work most of the night.
We weren't meant to be digesting during our sleep. Sleep time is for detox and repair, and beautification!
So try to not eat or drink after 6pm, then move it earlier and earlier.
I have my supper juice usually at 4pm. Because I have been 95-99% raw for a year and a half, most of my food has it's biological water and very few toxins.
I am rarely thirsty. Usually in the morning, I wake up thinking of blueberries or watermelon. I really enjoy my breakfast. You should wake up hungry. Most people don't because they eat so late.
Listen to your body.
If you are trying to dry fast after 6pm, but find yourself thirsty, go ahead and drink water. But the earlier in the evening the better.
You know, monkeys can't really drink glasses of water. They lick leaves.
But they don't really need to drink water because the majority of their diet is fruit, with it's biological water.
Did you know, many long term raw people don't drink water at all?
Isn't that crazy?
It shows, biological water is great for the body. And free water, or plain water you get from the tap, isn't always necessary after the body is detoxed.
I personally still drink about 8 cups water/herb tea a day. But I try to have the last by early afternoon.
And after my veggie juice- no more food or water.
Once in a while, after my hot bath, I do feel thirsty. So I will drink some water.
When my body was comfortable dry fasting after 4pm on a regular basis, I began doing a weekly 20-24 hour dry fast. I stop eating or drinking after 12pm.
Even then, I'm usually, still not hungry or thirsty. I can dry fast for 24 hours without even thinking of water or food.
