Well I think there is a big population out there that are christian, but don't have a church home to go to and chat with like-minded people. The bible tells us to be with this family of believers.

Hebrews 10:24-25
and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.
