Actually, that's not quite what I said. What I did say is that a literal fire can have no effect in the spiritual realm. The reason the fire works in 2 Peter 3 is precisely because it operates on a physical, material universe. Even then, the physical universe is not 'annihilated', but transformed into 'a new heaven and a new earth'.
