Loquat, you said, "You don't believe in hell, in the sense of eternal conscious suffering, but you believe in heaven, in the sense of eternal bliss for the redeemed?"
So what are you getting at here? Because there is eternal bliss for the redeemed, there must be eternal conscious suffering for the lost?
But what about this dichotomy that the bible actually teaches:
eternal life vs.eternal death
everlasting life vs. perish
John 3:16
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not Perish but have EVERLASTING LIFE.
Throughout the bible, in clear scripture after clear scripture, it says the wicked will DIE or PERISH. After judgement day, the wicked are cast into the lake of fire, which is called the SECOND DEATH.
Revelations 20:14
And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
So all jokes aside about shoving each other off of cliffs, it really is a sad deal, I think, that this hell view is considered such heresy because it really has a compelling biblical case. And when it comes down to it, I honestly don't think most have given the nature of Hell much study at all.
But the Conditional Immortality hell view is gaining ground thanks to some great work out there on the subject, so regardless of if you stay firmly settled on your hell view after this conversation or not, it won't hurt for you to get more familiar with this view, if you are not already. The debate is beginning to really rage out there.
That said, I am certainly no expert on the subject by any means, but I'll be pointing you to people who are. You introduced me to the great Charles D. Alexander which has been great. I've got some people to introduce you to. :)
