Once you allow the state to meddle in church affairs, you invariably end up with a corrupt version of the Faith. If you want proof, look at what happened when Christianity was 'adopted' as the formal religion of the Roman Empire. We ended up with Roman Catholicism and (eventually) the Eastern Orthodox Church, both names in themselves contradictions in terms. Whilst they had a stranglehold, minority groups like the Waldensian and Albigensian Christians were either suppressed or massacred. How's that for brotherly love?

We had to have a Reformation to recover a semblance of the 'Faith of the Book', and even then it's doubtful it went far enough. The secular search for utopia, whether inspired by Christianity or not, invariably leads to dystopia. Big govt. should learn to keep its nose out of our affairs. It's none of their business. It's not even a guarantee that govt. will make the right decisions. Look what happened to Iraq when two world leaders, both ostensibly Christians, conspired to invade it. I can think of no better reason for the entire Muslim world to hate us with a vengeance, and they would have just cause. We created ISIS, Hezbollah, Al Qaeda, Boko Haram, Hizbut Tahrir, Jabhat al-nusra.......ad nauseum.

If the US spent just a fraction of the trillions it squanders on its obscene industrial-military complex building bridges to these countries instead of fomenting wars, this might be a much safer world. And a lot closer to utopia than what we have now.
