Glad all worked out for you! It's been 11 years since your post! How are you now feeling & how restricted is your diet? Can you eat what you like now? I was hospitalized overnite for acute cholecystitis 2 mos ago. The surgeon never made it in to see me until the next day due to having to do emergency surgery at same time so I didn't see him until the next am & my attack was over by then, thank goodness. (I endured 14 hrs of pain before going to ER, so total time of attack was 28 hrs). The ER resident said I'd be admitted for "at least" 2 nites, but I'm sure I got out earlier as he didn't take into the account the 14 hrs before going to ER) I was later told they don't like to operate during an attack unless there is rupture, which is an extreme emergency. Did yours rupture? I'm trying to figure out why you were told your life was in danger. I know that can be the case with pancreatitis. Emergency surgery usually also means open surgery rather than laproscopic . Which did u have? I find it interesting that you were told yours had to come out immediately. My (potential) surgeon told me he's "booked until the end of Feb" which means I have to be very careful with my diet for 3 months unil then, but he further said by diet alone he could keep me from surgery for "months, maybe even a year". I was told to eat no fat, which I was doing until a consult with a ND a few weeks ago said I must consume a bit of "good" fat daily or I will be in more trouble. Research online also said to eat some good fat daily! So I'm eating a few tsp of avocado daily now. So many conflicting opinions between MD's, ND's & now the internet forums! I've been 100% pain free since discharged 2 months ago. (I had numerous stones, sludge & thickened walls on scans - US/CT/xray -so I hope drinking 70 oz of water with tons of lemon juice daily has made some positive changes & I'd love to avoid surgery but torn due to massive conflicting opinons! My attack began day after Thanksgiving after eating ice-cream & apple pie for a 2nd time in 24 hrs (and fatty holiday food) To top it off, my 5 year-old grandson jumped on my stomach while I was lying on the floor on my back! Im 64 yrs old, female, & either his chin or elbow got me in my left breast/gallbladder area. I now wonder if that set me up for the attack as I just read that trauma can also cause an attack. Perfect storm? I would think that if I had such a lousy gallbladder, that I would continue to have discomfort at the very least, no? Any input greatly appreciated as the surgeon thinks he's removing my gallbladder in March when he's "free" to do it! lol because what was emergency/life-threatening in your case, was not so in my case. It seems more a "timing" element for me!
