Hi All,
Reading has help relieved some recent worries. So my wife and I we're taking 12.5mg iodoral tabs prior to conception, and she continued this through pregnancy and breast feeding (we actually both still take this). Our boy (now 16months) is very much like the commenter above describes, bright, interactive, loves life, music, people (always saying 'hi' to everyone!) etc.
We try to feed him organic food etc. And since he stopped breast feeding at 11months, we have given him cold pressed milk (closest to raw we can get here), with Lugols drops.
Even when his body was 55th percentile, his head circumference was 99th percentile!
Now we have 15% Lugols and I found that mum was putting 1>3 drops in the 750ml bottle which he would drink about 500ml of a day. So he was probably getting between 20>60mgs a day! Eek. When I realised we stopped giving it him (I've just diluted to 2%, so will start up again soon), we noticed when he would selfsooth (suck his thumb) he would grab his throat. We're not sure if this is related to his tyroroid or just coincidence. He still does it since stopping but not as much...
He never got ill, and since stopping he's had a runny nose and been sick (stomach bug).
So we'll start again, but will be more careful on dosage.
I thought it was worth sharing, just in case there is a correlation. I think to much of a good thing 'could' be a problem, but am convinced governments do suggest way too little. Remember the body has to do something the excess, I'm not clear what it does with it.
Don't let this put you off taking it or giving it, just don't be too lax with calculating the dosages.
Number two is in the planning stages, we won't be changing anything :-)
