The copper rods are definitely better than wrist straps.

It depends on the brand of zapper as to how the rods are connected. ParaZapper solders the wires inside of the pipes to insure a good connection. Lower quality zappers tend to use alligator clips.

Also, ParaZapper wires are color coded, red for positive, green for ground or negative.
