Ted Zava provided evidence that Iodine could remove Mercury?

I didn't find any indication for this when I searched through his posts. In fact, he just sent me this E-mail:

At this point there is not enough evidence to prove that Iodine is a chelator of mercury. Yes, Iodine can potentially bind to mercury, but its fate is unknown. Some say that it can potentially prevent the damaging effects of mercury, but evidence is lacking like you mentioned.

Mercury’s affinity for selenium (selenocysteine) and sulfur (cysteine/cystine) is much higher than iodine, so I would think that those two elements would play a much larger role in mercury detoxification than iodine. I have yet to see a solid peer-reviewed study proving the claims of Dr. Sircus.
