Actually the SilverGen doesn't have a magnetic stirrer - it has motorized. Spoke with the SilverGen guy today and he said the Sg6 has just been upgraded with larger motor for the stirrer, bi directional current, changing light colors and um something else.

Since the stirrer motor was upgraded I'm guessing other people had this problem too. But again it lasted 8 years so it's hard to complain. He even tried to help me fix it over the phone but I didn't have time. Not bad for it being 7 years out of warranty.
