I would perhaps take a little attention away from fluoride because although I believe that the subject of irritants is relevant and does apply to some of us with EC it's impossible to be certain as not enough tests have been done.

There are so so many different chemicals used in toothpaste, I think it's just as likely to be any one of those than it is fluoride. Fluoride is at least naturally occuring mineral unlike many other ingredients used in toothpaste.
