I think there is some good info here, but my own experience doesn't fully jive with it. I think that Depression is often more neurochemically complex than just low_serotonin or low_dopamine. For one, norepinephrine can play a role in Depression as the spine tends to burn it away when people are under high stress. I experienced this myself years ago and when I was put on a script of amitriptyline it helped me tremendously. I also think that periods of low mood and Depression are two totally different things..
But the main reason for this post is to state that ALTHOUGH I DO NOT BELIEVE IN DEPRESSION_PHARMOS ANYMORE, I had success in the past with BOTH a serotonin med (Zoloft) and a dopamine med (Wellbutrin) at different points in time, and my depression is absolutely the low energy lack of motivation kind, all the time.
All three (single) meds helped my depression in similar ways. Who knows why.. the biochemistry of the brain is highly complex, so much so that both modern medicine and advanced naturopathy has yet to fully understand what is going on up there..
Just my $.02
Blessings,
Brian
