Before 1958, when griseofulvin was first approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for systemic treatment of tinea capitis, the only available treatments were shaving the head, applying mercury/sulfur to the scalp, or resorting to high-fat diets (Möhrenschlager, Seidl, Ring, & Abeck, 2005)

Times capitis can be caused by Candida, fascinating! Fungus do break down skin, but, absent fungal cellulitis, or the scalp or feet, most of the activity on skin seems to be near the surface. As is the primary activity of the more effective azoles (antifungal medications).
