I've been taking 2 litre / 2 quarts saline water enemas for a year now, initially once a week for about 4 months, and then less frequently, perhaps once or twice a month, at times in conjunction with liver flushes.
For the last two months I find myself being unable to do an enema properly. I have two difficulties - first, the water often leaks out of my colon in more than just a few drops, as it used to be the case earlier. For a 2 quart enema the amount of water that leaks out is probably half a cup or a bit more. The leaking takes place in a small stream out of the rectum, and when I remove the nozzle, the water comes out in larger quantity.
Second, holding the enema is more difficult. I used to hold the enema for 10-15 minutes but now more than 5 minutes is really difficult.
I am not sure what the reason for this is. The only change I have made is that instead of table salt I use Himalayan Sea Salt now for the last 2 months.
I am considering the following possible causes:
- The colon may not be in good shape because of which the water is unable to flow into it. In this case I should just continue to try enemas which may improve the colon's shape.
- The rectal muscles may be weak. Not sure what to do about this.
- My position may be wrong. I lie on my back and raise my legs, bend them a bit on the knees, and rest the ankles on a table that is about 3 feet high. I think I would be closer to the instructions if I held my knees to my chest, although it is tiring to hold them like that for the 10 minutes or so that it takes to take in the water. I could also try lying on my left side.
- The water may be flowing in too quickly. I usually keep the enema bucket 3-4 feet high which is higher than is instructed usually. This is because the pipe is very long and takes several bends if I place the bucket lower, which makes the flow of water slow or stagnant. I could try keeping the enema bucket lower.
What could be causing these problems, and what can I do about them?
I would appreciate any thoughts on this.
