Hi iandthou,

"I am wondering if there is an order according to which the body cleanses itself in a fast?"

Since the body wants to detoxify first I would think that the cleansing organs and pathways are cleaned first - built in efficiency so to speak.
After that I would guess that the priority is for balance and since limiting factors effect efficiency adversly then the body will automatically prioritise according to the balance that it determines, which may not be what we expect.

I dont think that the body will prioritise according to age of older injuries or illnesses or what we may think are of importance for the reasons stated above.

Also the toxicity of our environment is very different to what it was even 30 years ago and with such exposure unprecendented outcomes or complications during the fast cannot be ruled out. That is not to say that fasting is not always beneficial but for example that these new chemical complexes may take time to neutralise and may call lengthier strategies or greater frequency in some instances.
Something that springs to mind is the constant olfactory assault that I experience daily when I'm out - the everpresent stench of fabric conditioners, perfumes, air fresheners, detergents, deodorants that now tend to linger persistantly, insidiously and pervasively from days to weeks which means that they are not oxidising or breaking down very quickly. The modern faster has to deal with the way our environmental exposure has evolved but this is obviously random and therefore likely unquantifiable.

I would think that experienced & well-read fasters like chrisb would generally be able to give a good approximation of when certain processes are likely to start or cease.

Anyway - that seems to be my present rationalle.
